Speak the name of Jesus in a crowded room and the room will likely go silent. In an instant. Unless it was used as an expletive. It’s as if the silence screams, “How dare you speak that name?”
Why is it that we’re so uncomfortable talking about Jesus? His name is unlike any other. It almost always gets a reaction, even if only sudden, awkward silence.
I’m going to devote the next few posts to some of the reasons I think we stumble over Jesus. If, at some point, you decide you’d rather walk with Him than stumble over Him, you’ll need to know how to take your first step. Here’s how…
Say “Yes” to Jesus (and in so doing, agree with what He declares in His Word), like this…
“Yes. I agree that I’ve been living for myself and not for You. That’s sin, and I’m sorry.
“Yes. I receive Your forgiveness and redemption. I know it cost You Your life, yet You give it as a free gift. In fact, if I try to earn it, I’m missing the point. All my good works couldn’t come close to paying the debt I owe for rebelling against a Holy God.
“Yes. I give You my life and receive Your life in me.”
And with those words you begin a relationship with the Living God.
“Behold, I [Jesus] stand at the door and knock. If any one hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.” Revelation 3:20
